Abstract

This is an exploratory and mixed piece of research where twenty-one researchers who live in Mexico and whose first language is Spanish participated. The requirement was that they did research and published about social sciences and humanities. To collect the necessary data regarding their beliefs, practices, and attitudes about using or not English, we designed a 16-item questionnaire available in Google Forms for one month so that researchers voluntarily answered it. Once the data was collected, Atlas.ti was used to analyze the information. Some of the most relevant findings were that 61.9% of the participants make their bibliographical queries in Spanish, while 38.1% make it in English. In general, all of our findings reach conclusions regarding linguistic policies related to publications in the area of social sciences and humanities, as well as policies to  the teaching of languages in Mexico, among others.
